Your child will learn to talk from you. From the first few weeks of your child’s life, you should watch what you say and how you say it. Your child will learn from you. She’s taking it all in. Listening to how you talk and how you say your words... for one day she’ll be talking just like you do.
Your child will start talking around the time she turns one year old. These first words won’t be anything you can truly understand perhaps. But they will be words nonetheless.
When your child gets to be 10 or 11 months old, she will likely start showing signs that some words will soon come from her mouth. There’s really no way to persuade your daughter or son to talk, except for you to continue talking to your child. The more you talk to your child and let her see your mouth move when you do it, the more easily you’re making it for her to talk. Let her see how it’s done. Let her see you move your mouth and your voice. She’ll start realizing that she has control over what noises come out of her mouth and how different sounds are formed. Before you know it, your child will speak her first words.
Don’t be distraught if your child doesn’t talk until after her first birthday. That’s not a problem. Different children start talking at different ages. It’s purely natural. You shouldn’t force your child to talk if she’s not ready to. She needs to do it at her own pace. Be patient and the words will come out before you know it.
A child won’t truly begin to form sentences and start developing a vocabulary until she reaches her preschool or kindergarten years. When you’re trying to continue your child’s verbal growth, reading to your child helps.
